How To Guide: 5 Steps To Build Your Instagram Account

Instagram has become a fundamental factor in many brands’ social presence. With it being the 4th most used social media platform worldwide, Instagram is a must-have in order for your brands social presence to grow. Social media platforms attract millions of users each day, making room for definite exposure and new opportunities for your brand. Although this sounds simple, creating a strong social media presence requires strong branding efforts. It’s time to go back to basics, sharpen up our strategies and to grow our social media platform. Are you ready?


Tip #1 - Create an account


Starting nice and slow is creating an account, which personally, I think is the most simple step. To begin, open the instagram app and select add account. You will then create a new account where you create a unique username and password and fill out all the necessary profile details e.g profile picture, bio, and the type of account you’re creating. Then you press next, and you’re just one step closer to creating your dream online presence.

Tip #2 - Develop your Brand Identity


It’s important to distinguish how you want to portray your brand to the world. Do you want to be known for your bold, out-going attitude or do you want to be known for your professionalism? That’s something that your brand identity resembles. You can develop your brand identity through using specific colour palettes, fonts, the types of images you create to post as well as the message/information that you display to the digital world. Just make sure that your brand identity is clearly displayed.


Tip #3 - Use UNUM or Planoly


I’m not to sure if it’s just my OCD side kicking in, it most probably is, but I rely heavily on the apps UNUM and Planoly. These apps allow for you to organise and design your layout to meet your brand identity needs. Not only does it allow for cohesion throughout your social media posts, it insures that your brand image is consistent throughout your account. These apps also allow to schedule your posts, making your social media an easy, time-saving activity.

Tip #4 - The power of hashtags


Hashtags are the golden link between your business and your target audience. This simple symbol holds great power on social media and will aid in your businesses social media growth. For each post, 11-15 hashtags are recommended in order to reach a wide audience. Another tip is to keep up-to-date with what hashtags celebrities and other brands are using and to incorporate them into your tags as well.



Tip #5 - Consistency is key


The final step is to be consistent. Now although this may sound like an easy task, it’s often what interferes with brands social media success. Brands should be reaching a minimum of three posts a week, and if possible, aiming to post each day.
